How to get to IMK-IFU
The Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research, Atmospheric Environmental Research IMK-IFU is located in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in the very South of Germany, approx. 90km South-West of Munich.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen can be easily reached
By airplane you will arrive at Munich Airport (“Franz-Josef-Strauß” ) approx. 130km North-East of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. From Munich Airport take the S-Bahn rail link S1 via Neufahrn, Moosach, Laim to Munich Central Station (“Hauptbahnhof”, travel time 45min) or the S-Bahn rail link S8 via Ismaning, Ostbahnhof, Isartor, Marienplatz, Karlsplatz/Stachus to Munich Central Station (“Hauptbahnhof”, travel time 41min). From there take the regional train (see below).
Or you arrive through Innsbruck Airport, Austria, situated approx. 60km South-East of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. At Innsbruck Airport, the bus stop is located just outside the airport building. Take bus route F to Innsbruck Central Railway Station (ÖBB, busses every 15min, duration 18min).
Munich Central Station has connecting trains to all larger German cities. Here you transfer to the regional train line in direction to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (with end station as shown on the train is Mittenwald or Innsbruck/Austria). This connection from Munich Central station with stop in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is virtually every hour and takes 1h30min; the fare from Munich Central Station to Garmisch-Partenkirchen is approx. € 18,30 (2nd class, one way ticket). The whole trip from Munich Airport to Garmisch-Partenkirchen Station by S-Bahn and regional train takes about 2hrs26min.
If you arrive at Innsbruck, trains from Innsbruck Central Station to Garmisch-Partenkirchen depart every two hours, duration 1h20 min. Online tickets are available at Austrian Railways.
There is a bus going directly from Munich airport (München Flughafen) to Garmisch Central Train station (final destination: Innsbruck). The bus travels five times a day from the airport. It takes approximately 2 hrs to get to Garmisch. Prices depend on whether you book the ticket online or buy it directly with the driver (9 – 18.50 €). It is highly recommended to book online in advance to make sure you have a seat reserved (http://meinfernbus.de/en/).
When you drive to Garmisch-Partenkirchen by car from the Northern, Western or Eastern direction and you arrive at Munich, follow the signs to the Highway A95 / E533 (direction Garmisch-Partenkirchen). Follow this highway for about 70km. At the end of the Highway (Exit Eschenlohe) you have to follow the State Road (Bundesstraße) B2 for approx. 15km.
When you drive to Garmisch-Partenkirchen by car from the Southern direction (i.e. from Innsbruck, Austria) on the the A12 / E60 Inntal Highway (Autobahn) in direction Bregenz, you have to take the Exit Zirl-Ost in direction Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Seefeld, Zirl-Ost. Here you have to follow the State Road B2 / E533 via Seefeld- Scharnitz -Mittenwald to Garmisch-Partenkirchen for approx. 43km.
When arriving in Garmisch-Partenkirchen
by train: You will find a bus stop just outside the Central Railway Station, i.e. left-hand across the road and in front of the Main Post Office. Take Bus No.2 (direction “Kreuzeck/Alpitzbahn”), get off at bus stop “Hammersbacher Fußweg” (duration approx. 15min). The entrance of IMK-IFU is just across the road from the bus stop. by car: Follow the B23 and the road signs to Ehrwald / Lermoos /Reutte (Austria). The Institute is located on the outskirts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen towards Ehrwald. Just before the town turn left on the last junction (sign Kreuzeckbahn / Alpspitzbahn) and follow the road for about 600m. IMK-IFU’s entrance is right on the left-hand side of the road.
